What do i need to do to order a cut-out?

All you need is a picture of what you want us to make your cut-out from, and to tell us a height that you want the cut-out to be. The picture can be a print of a photo, a digital camera image, or a design - anything you like in either printed or digital format, just make sure you have permission to reproduce the image for the purpose you require if you are not the owner of the image.

For most images we will decide how to cut around the person in the picture, and this is included as standard in the price.  We create a smooth, simplified cut-line, and do not cut around very fine detail which cannot be achieved on cardboard.  We usually flare out the bottom of the cu-out for stability and strength. For very narrow sections we will get in touch with you if needed to discuss including some of the background to add strength.

To place your order click 'Go to Ordering' below and follow the simple step by step ordering process.  We advise you to upload your image when asked on screen but you can opt out of this and send your image another way; either by email, upload or by post; see 'Are there other ways to pay?' and 'How do i send a picture by post?' for more details.  Don't hesitate to call ask our advice if you are not sure of anything you are asked to do on screen.

We aim to dispatch within the lead-time you have selected, and this commences on the day we receive your order, and your payment if you are not a credit account customer, and print ready artwork. For example, an order received on a Monday with a 3 day dispatch lead-time will be dispatched on the Thursday of that week. Turnaround times can occasionally be delayed subject to high workload and the service may be unavailable, in which case we will inform you as soon as possible. If artwork requires customer approval then the lead time will start from receipt of customer confirmation. We aim to return artwork for approval within 3 days subject to workload.

Only working days (Monday to Friday) are considered in date calculations.

We offer timed delivery and same day delivery on our van subject to availability; please call for details.

Standard Delivery using overnight courier: Courier deliveries can arrive between 9am and 6pm the following day after dispatch for UK mainland addresses, excepting remote areas; please call if you suspect your area is remote. The courier will not leave the goods if there is no one at the address to receive them, and in this situation they will return the following working day. Where an attempted delivery was made unsuccessfully due to no answer at the address then the customer will be required to pay for subsequent delivery attempts.

Advice for time-critical deliveries

If your order is required for an event or other time-critical reason, then we advise you to order soon enough in advance of your date to ensure that we can rectify any unforeseen problems which may cause your delivery date not to be met. Generally this will be a period equal to a minimum of twice the lead-time in which we agree to be able to produce the goods within, but it is sensible to leave longer if possible. Unforeseen problems are rare but occasionally do occur, and we do not accept cancellation of any order for bespoke goods for any reason once the goods are produced, so if you order at last minute and go against this advice you do so at the risk of not receiving goods in time for your event; please read our terms of business for more details.

Can I tell you how tall i want my cutout?

Yes, you do this online when placing your order.

We custom make each cut-out to the size you require - there is no minimum size, and the maximum size depends on what you have chosen, go to Ordering to view current maximum sizes.
Very large sizes - we can go larger but this may need to be made from more than one sheet with a join. the largest sizes from a single sheet without a join are as follows:

cardboard: 1.98 x 1.83 metres (as for a wide cut-out)

PVC sheet 2.9 x 1.5 metres

but there is no maximum size where joining mulitple sheets is employed.

Standard delivery prices do not apply for sizes over 1.95 x 1.78 metres, but are calculated on an individual basis.

How do i send a picture by post?

If the picture is of value to you consider sending it by special delivery where there is a guarantee and insurance to cover the value.  We will return your picture with the cut-out but we do not accept liability for the value of your picture whilst in our care or in transit and we require that you contact us to arrange for insurance to cover the value of your picture before sending it if it is of value.

Is my photo good enough to use?

If you can clearly see the person in your photo, with all the detail that you would like to see, then you will also see the same result on your cut-out - this is the basic rule.  Cutouts are usually viewed from across a room or at least standing back and so very close up quality is not usually an issue, it is the overall effect that matters more, and often a blurred image up close will look fine from a distance away.

Almost any modern phone camera can take a photo with easily high enough resolution to produce a life size cutout when on its high quality settings.  What is more likely to be a quality issue these days is if the image is blurred (unfocused), the image has poor lighting and so lacks enough contrast or is too dark to see detail, or the person in the photo occupies only a small part of the whole image.  For these reasons we no longer use an online resolution check since it is of little use with today's high resolution cameras. Please note that we do not manually check images for quality.

If you want to know how your photo might look at life size you can zoom in to your photo on a PC or laptop so that the face fits on the screen about life size, then walk across the room and then look back at it from a distance - does it look good from where you are standing?  Image quality is essentially subjective and based on many factors, we advise you to ask yourself the question 'does it have the wow factor?'   Will it make people laugh, or gasp, or whatever desired reaction you are looking to elicit?  this is what matters most.

I have an incomplete photo (missing legs/ arms)

No problem, we can add legs and arms in, put a head on a different body, the options are unlimited and we have plenty of experience and expertise.  Photo Editing does carry a small charge so please get in touch first via the conatct page and we will take a look at your photo and tell you what the options are.

For missing legs the best option is to take a photo of the same persons legs (or person wearing the same trousers etc) in the same pose, or as close as you can get, and send us both photos to graft together.  We can create legs for you but the tiem involved and hence cost is higher.

What material do you use to make the cut-outs?

We offer a range of materials to suit your purpose:

The standard cut-outs available to order on this website are made from a double walled coated smooth white faced cardboard and digitally printed with UV resistant inks.
The cardboard is matt white finish; heavy ink coverage can give a slight sheen to the finish.

If you require more durability and outdoor weather proof cut-outs then we can make them the same way in PVC board; prices are sligthly higher than cardboard and you will need to email or call us for a quote.

We can also laminate your cut-out to give added protection to the printed surface and a different finish in gloss or satin.

Can you make cut-outs of Celebrities / famous people?

Yes we can, we make custom cut-outs of absolutely anything, but we do not stock ready-made cut-outs, so if you can find the image of the celebritiy then we can make the cut-out!  Just make sure that the image is suitable for making a cutout from - it needs to be full length but more important it must be big enough to enlarge to life size - many images you will find on the web are only small and do not enlarge well.  You can see how an image will look by saving it on yoru PC then opening it on a picture viewer and zooming into an image until the face fills your screen, this is about life size and what you see is roughly what your cutout will look like this close up.  There are no ways of enhancing these images without costly re-touching.

If you want a cut-out of someone famous and you have their image, then make sure you have permission to reproduce the image for the purpose you require.
